seems like everyone love, love, loves the Fox Talas. Why not a lefty on the Uber V?

Go for it.

I don't think anyone has tried it yet. It sounds like an interesting concept.

The Uber has no rules. If you have a lefty, give it a try.

I was just wondering if it had been tried... or why it has not been done, seems like it would make sense, Cannondale fork with Cannondale frame... A lefty would fit on a Super V right?

I rode a couple of different leftys on my Ubers for about two years (both low end and tricked out ti). They were incredible for cross country/moderate all mountain but too delicate for the trails that the Uber seems to want to go down (this was four years ago-I know nothing about current leftys). I rarely made it more then two months without having to get expensive proprietary repairs done. When they were working properly in my opinion nothing could beat them. When I was riding there was no option to get one that could drop it's stroke on the fly. I think the main advantage to the Talas besides it's rugged, take anything kind of durability is it's travel adjust and very reasonable service costs.

One of the other factors is head tube angle.....I'm don't know what the effective crown height is on a Lefty, but it may not optimize the Uber.  Even the range given with the TALUS effects handling substantially. On the forum, RW mentions others have tried it with a 140mm Lefty; he doesn't comment on the results. He will have input when he returns from vacation, I'm sure. Or sooner.

another lefty question... Do brakes mount like a normal fork? or do you have to get some proprietary Cannondale system that works for Leftys?

Well you can't run V brakes but disc calipers mount just like on other forks. You gonna try it? I'm jealous! The wheel makes a huge difference. It's gotta be a nice, stiff wheel build or you will feel the mushy lateral sway of the wheel for sure. The lefty itself will be so precise and stiff that you'll be able to hold lines like never before. I have never been able to ride skinnys with normal forks the way I used to rail them with the lefty. I don't know why-whether mental or actual equipment advantage-but when I was riding the leftys I could ride a curb for ever. Telephone poles, downed trees, anything. I'm interested to hear your take on it if you do give it a go.

So I am going to try this set-up out, probably going to stop by the shop to work on switching out a headset and swingarms and start piecing this baby together... so anyone got a lefty stem? I have one but it really long, I would like to find a 100mm or 110mm stem for this bike. If anyone has something like that please let me know or tell me where I can find one online or something.

I have a pile of lefty stems. I'll take a look and see if any fit your needs. Most of mine have crazy rises but I may have a more main stream one. They're not too nice, but one might work for you to decide if it's the appropriate size before you drop cash on a nice one.

Thanks Tom, I will probably head over to the bike shop today to switch out a swingarm and headset, let me know what you want for a stem. Can you even buy an aftermarket lefty stem? I did a quick ebay/google search and it didn't look promising...

No problem I still haven't looked but I will when I get home in a bit. I think I used to just search for that size steerer tube rather then "lefty" stem.

I don't have one shorter then 120mm  Angry If you want the one below I only want $10 for it, but you can just use it too if you just need a place holder. I can leave it at TB for you if so.

This is the closest I have to what you need: 120mm 5 degrees rise.

I have a 120mm no rise too, but that's going to be way too long.

I have one thats 120mm already so I will just use that for now, but I took your advice and I was able to find something cheap on ebay with a different search criteria., so thanks for the offer and you helped me out anyway even without directly hooking me up with a stem.

No problem. It looks like you'll have it built up just in time for some sweet weather.  Grin
